Short course “Advanced open-source tools for mineral predictive mapping applied to critical raw materials exploration and assessment”
3rd August 2025, Golden, CO (USA)
3rd – 7th August 2025, Golden, CO (USA)
Beak is happy to announce the SGA 2025 Pre-Conference Short Course:
It is organized by Beak together with the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) / Geologian tutkimuskeskus (GTK), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI) and Jataware.
This short course will take place on 3rd August 2025 at the Colorado School of Mines from 8 AM until 4:45 PM MDT. It will provide best practices using AI, new ideas and insights in mineral exploration – especially concerning the application of the newly developed open-source tools for mineral predictive mapping.
The short course will showcase software developed in the frame of the EU-funded project– “EIS: Exploration Information System”, lead by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) / Geologian tutkimuskeskus (GTK), and the project “CriticalMAAS” (Critical Mineral Assessments with AI Support), led by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
In the first part of the short course, a short review will be provided about the concept of mineral predictive mapping. In the following, different machine learning algorithms will be presented and discussed on how they may be used for mineral predictive mapping. The second main part of the short course will strongly focus on the practical hands-on-training for a newly developed open source tool for mineral predictive mapping (MPM) for prediction of mineral potential called “EIS Toolkit” and “EIS QGIS Plugin & Wizard”. In the third and final part, new digital tool developments for critical raw materials assessment from the “CriticalMAAS” project will be showcased and demonstrated, specifically “Polymer” from Jataware and “StatMaGIC” from MTRI.
The Society of Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) was founded in 1965 in Heidelberg, Germany. Therefore, the 18th Biennial SGA meeting in 2025 will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Society! Please join us in Golden, CO (USA) from 3rd to 7th August 2025 for this premier forum for exchange of ideas on a broad range of issues related to mineral deposit research, exploration, development, and the environment.
