Beak upgrades information management system for the mineral sector of Uganda
Implementation of advangeo® Geodata Database at the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines

1st February 2018, Entebbe (Republic of Uganda)

In November 2017, Beak Consultants GmbH started to upgrade the “Geological and Mineral Information System” at the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines (DGSM) in Uganda. The project is financed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda.

The goal of the project is to provide, in a modern way, basic geoscientific data such as geological, geophysical and mineral information for informed decision making by prospective investors and the general public. Information will also be available online.

The main tasks of the project are to add customised advangeo® Geodata Database software modules, to link the Mining Cadastral data, to integrate the library and report management systems at the Documentation Centre (developed by Beak between 2008 and 2012), to develop and host a web portal, and to provide training for DGSM staff over the project period of 18 months (until April 2019).

Beak is looking forward to continue a fruitful collaboration with the DGSM in Entebbe that has started 10 years ago. The first phase of the project has now concluded with a presentation to DGSM staff on 1st February 2018.
